Johnnie A. Jones Sr., a civil rights attorney from Louisiana and a World War II veteran who was wounded during the Normandy invasion, has died. Jones was 102 years old when he died.

During the June 6, 1944 invasion, Jones came under attack from a German sniper as he landed on Omaha Beach.
Jones grabbed his weapon and returned fire, a memory that would haunt him for the rest of his life.
