Keechant L. Sewell is the 45th New York City Police Commissioner and is an American police officer and administrator.

She is the first woman to lead the New York City Police Department as Commissioner.

She became the New York Police Department’s first female commissioner and the department’s third black commissioner.

Sewell was sworn in as the first female commissioner of the New York Police Department on January 1, 2022, 176 years after the department was created.
